The EY Open Science Data Challenge is an annual global competition organized by EY. The theme for the 2024 competition is “Finding solutions to improve the climate resilience of coastal regions. How can data and artificial intelligence become the lifeline for vulnerable coastal areas?” This is an opportunity for students to apply the knowledge they have learned, as well as contribute to solving global issues.

The competition starts on February 1, 2024.

The registration deadline is March 10, 2024.

Participants can register anytime before March 10, 2024, and the Phase 1 competition period will be from the registration date until March 10, 2024. Therefore, students are encouraged to register as early as possible. The competition is open to all university students and young professionals with less than 2 years of work experience. Participants can compete individually or in teams of up to 4 members. The winning team can receive a cash prize of up to $10,000 USD and an invitation to attend the award ceremony in Athens, Greece in July 2024. The challenge this year is focused on enhancing the resilience of coastal regions to climate change – a critical issue as 75% of the global population lives in coastal areas. Coastal regions contain important ecosystems, infrastructure, and economic resources, but are becoming increasingly vulnerable to the severe impacts of climate change. With this challenge, participants will have the opportunity to apply artificial intelligence (AI) and utilize satellite data sets to develop models for identifying and classifying coastal infrastructure and ecosystems. Coastal regions hold particular significance for Vietnam as well, as the country’s 3,260 km coastline is not only a gateway for international trade and a hub for tourism, but is also home to half of Vietnam’s population. This indicates that the EY Open Science Data Challenge 2024 is aimed at addressing a pressing global issue with strong relevance for Vietnam, providing an exciting opportunity for participants to apply their data analysis and problem-solving skills to real-world challenges.
